Best Smartphone Deals For The Holidays
Posted by admin in Novatel MiFi News on November 26, 2009
BuyMiFi.com readers,
The end-of-year holidays are upon us. There are some really great deals to be had on recently released, state-of-the art smartphones.
The Blackberry Storm 2 is one such major new release. The Storm 2 features significant improvements over its predecessor. Wi-Fi is also now included, so you can make use of both your Novatel MiFi and Storm 2!

If you’re looking for a cheaper Blackberry, you might want to check out the recently released Curve 8530. The 8530 provides all the great features you get with a Blackberry, but can be had for free, again, with free shipping and free activation over at Wirefly.

You can visit BuyStorm2.com for more details, or visit Wirefly to get a Storm 2 for far less than you would pay at retail, plus get free shipping and free activation with Verizon!
Another major new release that occured early November was the Motorola Droid. The Droid is the brand-new, high-powered Android smartphone released on the Verizon network. Perhaps you’ve seen some of the ubiquitous TV commercials for the Droid…
The Droid has received very positive reviews. If you’re looking for a new, top-of-the-line phone, then you need the Droid.

The HTC Droid Eris is the lower-tier Android option on the Verizon network. Though it doesn’t have the same raw processing power as the
Droid, it is still an impressive phone that costs $100 less than the Motorola Droid. Again, Wirefly has the best price out there.

Smartphones make gifts that keep giving for years. So give a new phone to someone you love this holiday season, or go ahead and spoil yourself.

What To Expect From The Novatel MiFi In 2010

Sprint MiFi 2200
Ashton Wahlman wrote an interesting post intended for stock investors about Novatel Wireless. Wahlman sees Novatel’s MiFi as a game-changing device, and one that is sure to be copied by other wireless companies shortly.
Wahlman also had some speculations about where Novatel will take future iterations of the MiFi. Wahlman believes Sprint and Verizon will release MiFi’s capable of faster speeds that will also allow the wireless companies to increase the 5 GB/month data cap. Wahlman also sees 802.11n included in future MiFi’s.
“
There will be a WiMax/EVDO version of the MiFi for Clearwire /Sprint/Cablecos. Given the dramatically lower cost per bit associated with Clearwire’s WiMax network, compared to EVDO, the monthly service price should come down, and the 5 GB/s monthly cap could be increased…
…There will be an LTE/EVDO version of the MiFi for Verizon Wireless (VZ). The rationale is the same as for the WiMax version. In terms of widespread city deployment, it appears VZW is approximately one year behind Clearwire in deploying LTE vs. WiMax. LTE chips are not yet mature, so it is reasonable to expect such an LTE version of the MiFi late in 2010, probably 4Q….
…There is a third development we can expect from NVTL’s MiFi device in 2010, and that is the transition from 802.11g to 802.11n. In the past, 802.11n has meant unacceptable battery performance for mobile devices.
However, given new single-stream chips such as Atheros’ AligN 802.11n router chip, it is now possible to beef up the performance of the MiFi solution dramatically. The range of the MiFi today is suggested to be 33 feet. With 802.11n, even in single-stream configuration, both range and speed should increase dramatically. The 802.11n speed increase also goes hand-in-hand with the greater capabilities of WiMax and LTE when compared to EVDO.

MTS Now Offering MiFi 2200 In Manitoba
Posted by admin in Novatel MiFi News on October 20, 2009
You can now buy and use a Novatel MiFi in the Canadian province of Manitoba!
MTS Allstream is the first Canadian wireless provider to support and sell the Novatel MiFi to Canadian customers who want their own personal hotspots anywhere they go.

MTS will sell the Novatel Wireless MiFi 2200, which accesses the Internet through an EVDO connection.
So if you need to share broadband access in Winnipeg or elsewhere in Manitoba, MTS can meet your needs.
I’ve included MTS’s Wireless Coverage Map (which apparently covers 97% of Manitoba’s population) so you can see if you would have access to the MTS network.
