The Upcoming 4G MiFi

The original Novatel MiFi 2200, first available to Sprint and Verizon customers, was the cellular industry’s first popular, well-received hotspot device.

Now, as various wireless providers are launching their new high-speed 4G networks, Novatel Wireless is preparing for the launch of the Novatel MiFi 4082, the first 4G MiFi.

According to leaks, the Novatel MiFi 4082 will soon launch on Sprint’s 4G network.

The MiFi 4082 will be much like the original MiFi 2200, though with some crucial updates.

Of course, the 4G radio included in the 4G MiFi will allow users to access the internet nearly anywhere they travel, at speeds many times faster than 3G connections. If traveling outside the range of Sprint’s 4G network, the MiFi 4082 can still access and use Sprint’s 3G network.

Wi-Fi networking is also enhanced with the MiFi 4082. Now that most devices have 802.11n, the MiFi 4082 will include a 802.11b/g/n radio.

The leaked pictures of the 4G MiFi also show-off an upgraded look with an eInk display to show the status of the MiFi while it’s running.

The release date of the 4G MiFi is unclear, though sometime late January or February, 2011, is expected.
